World Event Highlights 2012

There were number of events in the year 2012 that changed the world. There were times when people were afraid, and there were times when we laughed etc. but in the end we all survived the End of the World! :)

On the 6th of August, Curiosity, a car- sized robot successfully landed on Mars. Its missions are to investigate if there's water on Mars, the climate of Mars etc. Curiosity took pictures of Mars, which I think will be helpful in the further scientific investigation and "meeting" Mars better.

Austrian skydiver, Felix Baumgartner set a world record on the 14th of October when he jumped from the capsule, which was at an altitude of 39 kilometers over Roswell, New Mexico, USA . His estimated speed was 1,342 kilometres per hour. He broke a few world records with his famous jump, and I think the broadcast of his jump was watched by millions of people all over the world.

Hurricane Sandy killed at least 209 people in the USA, Canada and in the Caribbean Islands. It caused a huge damage by destroying homes, leaving people without electricity. It started on the 22nd of October and it lasted for almost a week. The storm hit New York on October 29. The damage in New York caused by Hurricane Sandy is estimated at over $63 billion.
