2012 Summer Olympics

One of the many things that the whole world talked about was the Games of the XXX Olympiad, officially known as the '12 Summer Olympic Games. It was held in London, from the 27th of July to the 12th of August 2012. There were at least 10, 000 athletes.  Their motto was Inspire a Generation .

The event was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II. Musical performers included Mike Oldfield, London Symphony Orchestra  with  Rowan Atkinson, Arctic Monkeys and Sir Paul McCartney.

The closing ceremony was held on the 12th of August 2012 and it included the handover of the Olympic flag to Brazil, the host city of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

People from all over the world visited London for the Olympics. Over 9,000,000 tickets have been sold, from around $30 for standard seats to around $3,000 for the best seats.

Here are some facts about the Olympics:

Out of those medals USA won the most (104).
